Flex vs Saalt

Writer: Ashley RaynalAshley Raynal

If you know, you know.

I have both of them and made the switch from the diva cup after having two kids. The Diva Cup didn’t seem to fit the same after having two kids (affiliate link only because it’s a link for you to get there instead of searching yourself)

Both Saalt and Flex offer reusable menstrual discs, but the Saalt disc is known for its softer material and a custom finger notch for easier removal, while the Flex disc is designed for a comfortable fit and a higher capacity

Here's a more detailed comparison:

Saalt Menstrual Disc:

  • Material: Known for its soft, flexible, medical-grade silicone.

  • Design: Features a custom finger notch for easy removal and is designed to sit behind the pubic bone.

  • Capacity: Holds up to 6 tampons worth of flow.

  • Firmness: Saalt is considered softer than the Flex disc.

  • Pros: Ideal for those with bladder sensitivities, a weak pelvic floor, or a low or high cervix, as it doesn't rely on suction to seal.

  • Price: Saalt Disc costs $35

  • Duo Pack: Saalt Disc Duo costs $59

Flex Reusable Menstrual Disc:

  • Material: Made of medical-grade silicone.

  • Design: Designed to fit most vaginas and sits comfortably in the vaginal fornix.

  • Capacity: Can hold up to 60 mL of fluid, which is as much as 5+ super tampons.

  • Firmness: Flex is known for being firmer than the Saalt disc.

  • Pros: Designed for comfort and leak prevention, with a patented easy insertion notch.

  • Price: Flex Disc costs $16.49

  • Disposable: Flex also offers disposable menstrual discs

Key Differences:

  • Firmness:

Saalt is softer, while Flex is firmer.

  • Removal:

Saalt has a custom finger notch for easier removal, while Flex relies on a comfortable fit.

  • Suction:

Saalt doesn't rely on suction to seal, which can be beneficial for those with bladder sensitivities or IUDs.

  • Capacity:

Both have a high capacity, but Flex is known for its higher capacity, holding up to 60 mL.

  • Disposable vs Reusable:

Saalt is a reusable menstrual disc, while Flex offers both reusable and disposable options.

That was the down and dirty.

Honestly, I actually prefer the Saalt but the little notch thing doesn’t really help. I like the feel of the Saalt but the capacity of the flex. It seems like a lot to get both but if you got both you can alternate and really they last 5 years each with continuous use.
